Need Prayer?

An integral part of being a Christian is daily reading. Most importantly, it is God's Word, the Bible, that helps us to know more about God and understand how He wants us to live our lives for Him.

Another source of knowledge and inspiration are books written by Christian authors to educate and encourage God's people whether it be about walking closer with our Lord, serving one another or reaching out to the world through evangelism.

In an effort to help readers build an informative and helpful Christian bookshelf, we asked some of our well-read people at FBC to provide their list of favorite Christian books and why they mean so much to them.

We hope you'll find the contents here informative and enjoyable!

Glenn Vonk
  Knowing God, by J.I. Packer
"One of the best and most inspiring books on theology proper (study of God Himself). Very accessible."

Measure of a Man/Woman, by Gene Getz
"Biblical commentary on what it means to be a Godly Man or Woman -- great applications and it will build your spiritual life. Go through it with another person."

N/A Sharpen Your Focus on the Church, by Gene Getz
""The Best" modern commentary on what the church should be seen from the perspective of Scripture, History, and Culture. A truely foundational book on the church."

Decision Making and the Will of God, by Garry Friesen
"Don't make decisions for all the wrong reasons or obsess over finding the "perfect" will of God. This book brings a potent Biblical persepctive to this very important facet of life."

The Seduction of Christianity, by Dave Hunt
"Modern Christianity has, in many venues, absorbed a number of occult and pagan practices. This book not only points these out, but provides solid help to recognize these influences."

True for You but Not for Me, by Paul Coupan
"We are often intimidated by "canned" responses to the gospel. If you've ever wondered how to respond to these challenges this book is for you. It's a great resource for evangelism."

David Carson
The Knowledge of the Holy, by by A.W. Tozer
"In an age when people have such flippant views of God, this book enlarges one's thinking with a biblical understanding of God and His attributes. Though not difficult reading, many shy away from this book because it is God-centered rather than man-centered - rather telling of the depth of our Christianity."

The Pursuit of God, by by A.W. Tozer
"It's those who go after God that find themselves satisfied in Him. This book is a great motivation in that pursuit."

With Christ in the School of Prayer, by Andrew Murray
"One of the greatest devotional writers in recent times gives a needed understanding of the importance and power of prayer."

My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers
"The best daily devotional book around for those who are serious about serving the Lord."

The Gospel According to Jesus, by John MacArthur
"A much needed discussion of how the Lordship of Christ in the believer's life is essential to a genuine salvation experience."

Pam Carson
My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers
"The best devotional book around and it just gets better with time. Challenges us to live lives completed devoted to the One who is worthy."

The Knowledge of the Holy, by A.W. Tozer
"Tozer takes us beyond ourselves and helps us see a God who is so much greater than our understanding of Him - He is the God who invites us to know Him."

The Gospel According to Jesus, by John MacArthur
"Jesus is enough. He is sufficient in Himself to save and keep us."

  Pilgrim's Progress, by John Bunyan
"Written in 1678 this Christian classic is still useful today in showing us we are on a journey. This journey has it's joys and it's trials and an enemy out to destroy us but our destination is sure."

The Calvary Road, by Roy Hession
"Practical instructions on what it means to die to self and live to God."

  If, by Amy Carmichael
"Short thoughts used to challenge and exhort on what it means to live for Christ. "If monotony tries me, and I cannot stand drudgery; if stupid people fret me and the little ruffles set me on edge; if I make much of the trifles of life, then I know nothing of Calvary love.""

Luke 18:27
"What is impossible with men is possible with GOD."
