What Makes Us Different?
Our Defining Values
In a day when most Christians seem to have little more than a "sound bite" theology, we are convinced that a personal, conscious relationship with Jesus Christ should be the all-consuming passion of anyone who calls himself a follower of Christ. We define the eternal life which is the product of the salvation Jesus procured on our behalf with the words of His own prayer to the Father: "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:3)
Eternal life, salvation, is more than just avoiding hell and enjoying a blissful future in heaven. It is experiencing Christ in the present as well as the future. It is knowing Him as the sum of our deepest longings.
It is our desire to know Christ, and in turn to show Him to others, as He really is, not as some earthly culture or institution defines Him. We are convinced that the only way to do this is through gaining an intimate understanding of the Bible, the sole authoritative Word of God to the human race. As God the Holy Spirit ministers to us in our worship, our fellowship, and our outreach to the world around us, we are determined to measure all we do and think by the Word of God. It is the Word that distinguishes us from any who might choose some other rule by which to live. Jesus said, again in His prayer to the Father on behalf of His followers, "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." (John 17:17)
