From this historical psalm I learn this: God’s people need teaching (verse 1). Not necessarily new teaching but reminders of “things we have heard & known” (3). What things? “The glorious deeds of Yahweh & his might & the wonders that he has done” in the past (4). God commanded fathers to teach their children God’s law (5-6). Why? “So that they should set their hope in God & not forget the works of God” (7). God wants steadfast hearts & faithful spirits (8). Disobedience & resistance to what God wants leads to forgetting what God has done in the past (10-11). (Or maybe it’s the other way around!) Oh the grace & glory of God displayed in his abundant provision for his people (12-16). Yet, rebellious, demanding people are never content or satisfied with what God gives (17-20). We always want more. Why? Because we do not believe in God and do not trust his saving power (22). Still, God is gracious & merciful & faithful despite my sin and unbelief. Today I will trust God and remember!
