I want to begin blogging today to encourage you with some of my discoveries from digging into God’s word every day. For my daily “quiet time with God” I have been reading and reflecting on a psalm a day. “A Psalm a day keeps the devil away!” could be my daily reminder. So from Psalm 77 (ESV) here’s what I wrote:
Now is the time to cry aloud to God because he will hear me/us (verse 1). In the day of my/our trouble, I will seek the Lord (2) Even though my soul might refuse to be comforted & moans & my spirit faints, I will still remember God (3). Some things trouble God’s people so much we don’t know what to say (4). We try to remember what comforted us in the past (e.g., a favorite song). We try to meditate deeply but to no avail (6), because our spirit keeps asking questions about God (7-9). But if we truly remember what God has done for us in the past and how he exercised his power in “mighty deeds” (10-12), then we will understand that God’s way is holy, and there is no god great like our God (13). He is the God who works wonders (14). His power redeemed his people (15) and me! Everything in nature is under God’s control (16-18), even viruses! God’s way is THROUGH the troubling circumstances. He leads his people like a flock (19-20). What a great Shepherd he is! Verse 19 also reminded me of Isaiah 43:1-3a: “But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass THROUGH the waters, I will be with you; and THROUGH the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk THROUGH fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.'” Amen!
