Sometimes I wish I could write “a new song,” but since I can’t I will be content to join “all the earth” in singing one (1). This new song would bless Yahweh’s name and “tell of his salvation day to day” (2). This song would “declare his glory among the nations” and tell of his marvelous works of creation and redemption (3). Why? Because “Yahweh is great” and worthy of great praise (4). He is to be feared above all other “gods,” because they are worthless compared to the Creator of the heavens (4-5). Notice also the qualities inherent in Yahweh: splendor, majesty, strength (2x), beauty, glory (3x) and holiness. Idols have no inherent splendor or majesty, although I’ve seen some that were really decked out & fancy & colorful. But they only possessed the features the idol makers gave them. Yahweh has all these inherent qualities in infinite measure. As I think of the call to adore the LORD and worship him “in the splendor of holiness” and even “tremble before him” (9), I realize my worship & adoration & praise of Him fails to match “the glory due his name” (8a). Any offering of material gift or praise that I could bring is only a reminder to me of HIS great worth (8b). Still I will come, because he invites me into his presence. And he’s given me a message: “The LORD reigns!” “Yahweh is king!” And he’s coming to judge the peoples fairly (10). Eventually and finally he will come and set everything right (13). That’s truly something to be glad about & rejoice & sing for joy! (11-12). And someday I will sing “a new song before the throne” and God’s angelic host. I will be able to sing that song only because I have “been redeemed from the earth” and “follow the Lamb wherever he goes” (Revelation 14:1-5). I’m sure that song will echo the refrains from Revelation 4 & 5: WORTHY is the One seated on the throne and WORTHY is the Lamb!
