I am always amazed at how fitting my daily Bible readings are to current events. This is so true of Psalm 93 & the current COVID-19 pandemic. This psalm reassures me of God’s sovereignty – Yahweh reigns, clothed in majesty & strength (1a). His throne is the world he established long ago (1b-2a). God is greater than his creation because he existed before it – “from everlasting” (2b). Yahweh is mightier than anything going on in the world – any upheaval, i.e., “floods,” “thunders from many waters,” “waves of the sea” – (3-4). As the Devotional Psalter says, “God orders the world; the world does not order him.” God’s “decrees” (another word of his authoritative words) “are very trustworthy” & reminds me to be holy & acknowledge HIS holiness during this time (5). I take courage from this psalm because, as the Psalter reminded me, “… whatever the scariest catastrophe we can imagine, God is greater.” Take that, Coronavirus!!!
