If I follow David’s example in Psalm 145, I’m going to be very busy today and every day. I will extol my God and King and bless his name forever (1). Every day I will bless him and praise his name forever and ever (3). Why? Because Yahweh is “great,” and such unsearchable (limitless) greatness should be greatly praised (3). Such praise is and should always be multi-generational, as one generation commends God’s works to another and declares his mighty acts (4). Yes, I’ll be busy today meditating on the glorious splendor of God’s majesty and his wondrous works (5). There are plenty of God’s awesome deeds to speak of in declaring God’s greatness (6). He’s very famous for his abundant goodness, and I can’t help but sing of his righteousness (7). That I have a lot to praise God for and speak of to others is no wonder, because “Yahweh is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Yahweh is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made” (8-9).
I’m not the only one who has reason to praise & thank God (10). All God’s creation and people will join me in speaking of the glory of God’s kingdom & his power (11). These are plenty of mighty deeds & glorious kingdom splendor to make known (12). Even King Nebuchadnezzar knew that “[God’s] kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and [his] kingdom endures throughout all generations” (13a; Daniel 4:3). All God’s words & all his works & ways reflect his faithfulness & kindness (13b, 17). This great God upholds all who are falling and raises up all whose backs are bent over (14). He gives food to all who look to him (15) and satisfies the desire of every living thing (16). All who call on him in truth find him to be near (18). Those who respect him and cry out to him he saves (19). He preserves (watches over) all who love him (20a), but unfortunately not everyone does, so he will destroy them justly (20b). Yes, I’m going to be busy today praising Yahweh. Come join me in blessing his holy name forever (21).
